Jury Hears Testimony From Karen Read in High-Profile Murder Case

Damaging Evidence Presented as Defense Rest Rests Case

The trial of Karen Read, the Mansfield woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, entered a new phase on Thursday as the defense presented its case.

Read took the stand and testified that she awoke at 5 am on January 29, 2022, to a brief phone call from O'Keefe. According to Read, O'Keefe was screaming frantically into the phone. She stated that she heard a loud thump and then the line went dead.

The defense also presented testimony from other witnesses, including Read's friend, Kerry Roberts. Roberts testified that she received a call from Read shortly after the alleged murder. Read was crying and distraught, Roberts said.

However, prosecutors presented damaging evidence against Read, including a broken tail light from O'Keefe's SUV. State Police Trooper Michael Proctor testified that the tail light was damaged in the collision that killed O'Keefe.

The defense rested its case on Friday. Closing arguments are expected to begin on Monday.

Conclusion: The Karen Read murder case has captivated the public's attention. As the trial nears its end, the jury faces the task of weighing the evidence and determining Read's guilt or innocence. The outcome of this case will likely have a lasting impact on the families involved and the community as a whole.
