Interstellars Imax Rerelease Wasnt Canceled Over Destroyed Prints Despite Viral Rumors

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar IMAX Re-Release Put on Hold After Prints Allegedly Destroyed

Rumored Destruction of Prints by Paramount Pictures Delays 10th Anniversary Reissue

Paramount Pictures has been accused of destroying its 70mm IMAX prints of Christopher Nolan's 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar, potentially putting the film's planned 10th-anniversary re-release in jeopardy.

According to film journalist Scott Menzel, Paramount disposed of the prints, which were essential for the re-release's intended IMAX screenings. Nolan, a renowned advocate for film preservation, is said to be "furious" about the alleged destruction.

While Paramount has yet to officially comment on the matter, sources close to the studio have reportedly confirmed the prints' destruction, citing a lack of storage space as the reason. However, Menzel's report claims that Paramount had ample space available and that the decision to destroy the prints was intentional.

The potential loss of these IMAX prints is a major blow to cinephiles and Nolan enthusiasts alike. Interstellar, widely regarded as one of Nolan's greatest films, was shot with a combination of 35mm and 70mm film, and the IMAX prints offered a truly immersive viewing experience.

With the 10th anniversary of Interstellar's release approaching in November, the re-release was highly anticipated. However, it now appears that fans may have to settle for home video or streaming options to revisit the film's epic scope.
