Paddack, Sanchez lead Twins to 8-2 win over Kansas City Royals
MINNEAPOLIS -- For the first time this season, Minnesota Twins right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack got the win. For the first time in modern Major League Baseball history, Twins catcher Gary Sanchez homered in his first three at-bats.
Those two historic feats led the Twins to an 8-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Target Field on Thursday night. With the win, the Twins improved to 48-46, while the Royals dropped to 40-54.
Paddack (3-3) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out seven batters.
Sanchez hit a solo home run in the first inning, a two-run homer in the third inning, and a solo homer in the fifth inning. He finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
The Twins also got home runs from Gilberto Celestino and Nick Gordon.
The Royals scored their runs on a solo home run by Bobby Witt Jr. in the second inning and an RBI single by Edward Olivares in the sixth inning.
Royals starter Kris Bubic (1-7) allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five batters.
The Twins will face the Royals again on Friday night at Target Field. The game will start at 7:10 p.m. CT.
